Tab management is where the time goes
Most of us live with a lot of browser tabs, so the shortcuts that manage them pay off more than any others. Ctrl/⌘ + T opens a new tab and Ctrl/⌘ + W closes one, but the real hero is Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + T, which reopens the tab you just closed — and keeps reopening them in order if you press it again. Ctrl/⌘ + 1 through 8 jump straight to a specific tab by position, and Ctrl + Tab cycles through them. Together these mean you rarely need to aim at those tiny tab targets with the mouse.
Getting around a page and the web
The address bar is reachable instantly with Ctrl/⌘ + L — it selects whatever's there so you can just start typing a search or URL. Ctrl/⌘ + F finds text on the page, and a plain Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + R forces a hard reload that bypasses the cache, which is the first thing to try when a page looks stale or broken. Back and forward map to ⌘ + [ and ] on Mac, or Alt + ← and → on Windows.
Reading, zoom and tools
If a site's text is too small or too large, Ctrl/⌘ + Plus and Minus zoom in and out and Ctrl/⌘ + 0 resets to 100%. For anyone who tinkers, Ctrl + Shift + I (⌘ + Option + I on Mac) opens DevTools, and Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + J jumps to downloads. Bookmarking the current page is a quick Ctrl/⌘ + D.
One set of keys for many browsers
The best part: almost all of these are identical in Edge, Brave, Arc and other Chromium-based browsers, so the muscle memory transfers wherever you go. Add a handful at a time and use / to search this page when one slips your mind. For everything outside the browser, the general keyboard shortcuts cover your system, and Gmail has its own rich set if you live in your inbox.
