Single-key tools keep you on the canvas
Figma is built so you rarely need to leave the canvas, and the single-key tool shortcuts are how. V is move, F is frame, R rectangle, T text, P the pen — tap a letter and you're in that tool instantly. Holding Space to pan and scrolling or pinching to zoom rounds out navigation, so your hands stay where the work is instead of travelling to a toolbar.
Layout and structure
The shortcuts that speed up real design work are the structural ones. ⌘/Ctrl + G groups, Shift + A wraps a selection in auto layout (the feature most worth learning in modern Figma), and ⌘/Ctrl + Alt + K turns a selection into a reusable component. Shift + 1 zooms to fit everything, while Shift + 2 zooms to your current selection — both invaluable when you're moving between the big picture and the details.
Precision and consistency
For polish, holding Alt while dragging shows spacing measurements between objects, and arrow keys nudge a selection a pixel at a time (add Shift for larger steps). Copying a layer's properties with ⌘/Ctrl + Alt + C and pasting them onto another keeps styling consistent without redoing work.
